About this Organization:

The Sargent House Museum was built in 1782 as the home of Judith Sargent Murray (1751-1820) an influential American woman writer and philosopher whose work was read and praised by founding fathers such as George Washington. She shared this home with her first husband, Captain John Stevens, and her second husband, Reverend John Murray. John Murray established the first Universalist Church in the nation blocks away from where the home now stands. Today, we are a  501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to preserving this historic landmark and sharing Judith Sargent Murray’s legacy.
