This Friday afternoon, August 30th, we'll have our first tour from 1:00 pm-3:30 pm. It will coincide with "Meet the Fleet Day" where guests will have the opportunity to see Gloucester Harbor taking a turn back to its past as visiting schooners arrive. These majestic boats were the type that sailed across the Atlantic for fishing during the age of sail.
These special Taste Gloucester tours will include our usual great food stops and fun downtown stroll, but with an emphasis on the schooners that brought fortune and lasting fame here, and were - quite deservingly - the envy of the maritime world!

What is a food tour people may wonder? It is a different way of seeing a city. Ours is a food-focused walking tour (we travel about a mile) and it's approximately 2.5 hours long. Folks walk away with local knowledge and a memorable culinary experience.
The tour begins at Harbor Loop where our guide gives a history of Cape Ann. Guides are informative and fun! And they carry a large fork which gets lots of attention during the tour and makes for entertaining and memorable photos.
We walk up Rogers Street where we visit The Gloucester House, a family-owned restaurant serving ocean-to-table seafood since 1957. Here we enjoy their spectacular clam chowder.
Onto Virgilio’s Italian Bakery. This also family-owned business (beginning in 1961) makes their own bread starting each morning and they bake all day long! We sample the famous Saint Joseph's sandwich, which consists of delicious Italian cold cuts, olive oil and oregano on their fresh roll.
Next, it’s the Cape Ann Olive Oil Company. Here there is a spectacular presentation and guests sample olive oils and balsamic vinegars from all over the world.
Oliver’s Harbor Restaurant and Bar delights you with their calamari and flatbreads. Another proud family-owned restaurant.
Best pastry on the island? Definitely. Our last visit is for a mini cannoli at the quaint Italian cafe Café Sicilia, a real locals’ hangout. Guests can choose from plain, chocolate chip, pistachio, or almond.
