Get to know Lucy MacDonald DeMaine (1893-1988), a daughter of Gloucester who became the “heart” of the American Field Service and the wife of Gloucester artist Harry DeMaine. Learn about her connections with A. Piatt Andrew and Henry Sleeper, well known citizens of Gloucester. With her skills and dedication Lucy represents the women behind the scenes who make organizations (and artists) function and prosper. Her daughter-in-law, Ann W. DeMaine, will share her story and invite questions and discussion about the role of women during Lucy’s lifetime. Afterwards, join us to view the Collection Highlights exhibition case spotlighting the DeMaines and the American Field Service during World War I at the entrance to the Janet & William Ellery James Center gallery.
