The landscape of Cape Ann has been shaped by ancient geologic forces, from the collision of tectonic plates to the movement of glacial?ice. Using examples from the Museum's current works on view, including Edward Hopper's 1928 painting? Cape Ann Granite, we'll explore how this geologic history led to Cape Ann's important quarry industry and to landforms that have inspired artists for over two centuries.
Ed Becker is the former president of Essex County Greenbelt, a nonprofit land trust that has conserved nearly 20,000 acres of land north of Boston.??He has been a docent at the Cape Ann Museum since 2019.
