Of all the sculptors to have chosen Cape Ann as their place, from the mid-19th century through today, Walker Hancock (1901-1998) stands head and shoulders above all others. A quiet and dignified man, dedicated to his family, his community and his art, Hancock's work has earned the sculptor a status few others have achieved. The Cape Ann Museum is honored to present a selection of his work in this gallery, a gathering of pieces spanning the decades, works done on commission as well as for pure enjoyment. Also on display are works by some of Hancock's Cape Ann colleagues, including George Demetrios, Paul Manship, Katharine Lane Weems, Anna Hyatt Huntington, James McClellan and Daniel Altshuler.
